Day 1- Introduction to Green Industries ABQ, Today we were informed of what the outline of the course entails and the expectations of the professor. Assignments were produced and explained. Name game used for introduction of peers and prof.
Day 2-As being a bit of a green industry newbie I appreciate the safety techniques on starting some of the equipment. And the correct way to wind the snipper line.. I always got that thing stuck when I was young. Time for project was greatly appreciated too. See you Thursday.
Day 3- Learning to lay patio incorporating techniques of leveling and types of stone, how far to dig and awareness of product and professional advice. The slides on Japanese style gardens and how they were made and maintained was awe inspiring. Group work alotted for assignments greatly appreciated! Can wait till tomorrow!
Day 4- Our visit to WOSS. Its nice to see that the green belt on the trip there! The greenhouse was amazing and learning to transplant and see and recognize disease, fungi etc. was a nice extra touch. The explanation about how and why erosion under laid patio brick helped with comprehension. The insight on actual engineering of brick was an eye opener too! Awesome day!
Day 5- Planting a tree the right way!! We learned about the depth and diameter need to plant. watering procedures. Calculations lesson on cost estimating, slope, plant layout. Guest presentation by Matt Robertson from a series of secondary schools and Humber College about Green Industries and his stories and series .
Day 6 Today we made Hypertufa pots (a mix of concrete,sand, perlite or vericulite, peatmoss, and water) In the pics (on other page) we made a 5 hole potted plant holder. WE also went on a site trip to Notre Dame highschool in Oakville to see their hydroponics setup. Then of to the . Royal Botanical Gardens in Burlington. Especially great day in my opinion. I think a little more time at each would be awesome. :)
Day 7- Today, a classmate who is taking green Industries 11-12. gave us a quick lesson on arches. (pics available in other dropdown). We also got some information about "mass production" of certain green houses in Leamington. Group work and finalization of presentables for the next upcoming days.
